Edwin Sifuna was born on May 22, 1982 in Kakamega County to working class parents. His father was a civil servant with the defunct Municipal Council and his mother, a now-retired teacher from Moi Primary School in Bungoma. He has two brothers and two sisters and family is at the core of who Sifuna is.
Growing up, Sifuna grew up witnessing the hardships that plague many Kenyans currently, that of inadequate resources, inequality based on which part of the country you came from, limited job or economic opportunities, oppression for those who could not stand up for themselves… the list goes on. It struck Sifuna as unfair and lit a silent fire within him to want to do better, be better and in future, be a voice that could not be ignored.
He started his formal education at Kakamega Township Primary School and later on joined Musingu High School where he obtained his Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education. Thereafter, he pursued a Bachelor of Laws Degree from the University of Nairobi, graduating in 2006. He then pursued a Post Graduate Diploma from the Kenya School of Law in 2007 and was admitted to the Roll of Advocates in 2008.
Personal Life
Edwin Sifuna’s values of hard work, integrity, credibility and honesty were instilled in him while growing up within a staunch Catholic background. He is a baptized Catholic Church member.

Political Journey
Sifuna’s entry into politics came after he voted for the Kenyan Constitution in 2020; hopeful that it would be the start of a better future for Kenyans. However, he soon realised through interaction with the grassroot level community, that people were actively frustrating the implementation of the constitution, in particular the principle and practice of devolution. This is one of the key reasons that pushed him to join politics.
Throughout 2013 to 2016, he was a member of the Coalition for Reforms & Democracy (CORD) as a Technical/Advisory Committee Member. From 2016 to 2021, he served in the same capacity but now as a member of the National Super Alliance (NASA).
In the 2017 General Elections, he vied for Nairobi Senator putting up a spirited fight and emerged as the first runners-up with a very thin margin between the incumbent and himself. His efforts put him in a new political spotlight propelling him to the seat of Secretary-General for the Orange Democratic Movement Party, a position he holds up to date.
